We find ourselves at the crossroads of change in a post-pandemic social studies community with human rights injustices, climate change, and political debates on multiple topics. Social studies teachers nationwide constantly grapple with ways to provide best practices with limited resources and time.

Attending the Annual Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) helps social studies educators share innovative ideas, discuss the best teaching methods, and network with colleagues to create lifelong professional connections. Yet, many educators do not have district support to attend.

This is why we are asking for your help to send early and mid-career educators, from diverse ethnic groups, especially historically marginalized communities and/or those who teach in economically disadvantaged school districts, to the NCSS Annual Conference. These educators, who have never attended an NCSS conference, will have access to this premier professional development opportunity. The goal of the NCSS First-Timer Scholarship is to fund 300 educators’ registration for the NCSS Annual Conference, to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, from November 22-24, 2024.

Please join the growing list of NCSS donors who give generously to the First-Timer Scholarship. Your donation will not only support the attendance of a first-time attendee, but it will also provide them with a year-long membership to NCSS to receive the latest updates and professional opportunities in the social studies.

Thank you for your support!
